British Columbia changed its licensing course in 2026. The old Mortgage Brokerage in British Columbia course is closed to new registration. New entrants now take the Mortgage Services Licensing Course from UBC Sauder, the exclusive accredited pre licensing course under the Mortgage Services Act, which takes effect on 13 October 2026. If you finished the old course, you must apply for registration within one year of writing that exam, so do not sit on it.
In BC you take UBC Sauder's Mortgage Services Licensing Course: $1,500 plus $200 per exam attempt, twenty assignments within twelve months, then one exam. Most people finish the assignments in three to five months. Budget roughly $2,000 to $2,500 before the BCFSA licence application and criminal record check.
Plus a $200 examination fee per attempt. Two exam attempts per course registration. Register any time, there are no intake dates.
Multiple choice assignments completed online, a maximum of two per week, all within twelve months of registering. Most people finish in three to five months working part time.
Three hours, 100 multiple choice questions, 70 percent to pass. You have two years after finishing the assignments to pass it.
At least 19 years old, good reputation, and English proficiency: CELPIP General level 7 or higher on all four components, or an approved exemption such as prior study in English.
Your licence is issued in connection with a brokerage. Choosing that brokerage is the decision that shapes your first two years far more than the course did. Interview them the way they interview you: mentor, lender status, training calendar, processing support, what happens to your first file at 9pm.
The course teaches the rules. It does not teach you how to structure a self employed file, which lender takes a bruised credit refinance, how to build a pipeline before your first pay cheque, or what a normal day looks like. Read a day in the life of a mortgage broker, what the job actually is, the first 90 days plan, and what to look for in your first brokerage.
Leave your name, province and the month you expect to write the exam. We will check in around then, and when you have passed we will walk you through what a brokerage needs from you.
We onboard licensed brokers only, so the licence is yours to earn before we can help with anything else. After that you get weekly lender training, a team chat where new and experienced brokers answer around the clock, and senior brokers who will work your first files alongside you. There is no scripted programme with a guaranteed timeline. There is a room full of people who pick up.
