• FROM BANKER TO BROKER

You already know lending. Now build something of your own.

You are not starting over. You are changing the platform you build on. Your lending experience, your professional relationships and your niche come with you. What changes is the number of lenders, who owns the book, and who carries the back office.

Not sure this is your path? Take the four question quiz.

Three things to know

Keep your expertise

Your banking experience does not disappear when you leave the bank. Credit, income, structure, the client conversation: you have done the hard part. What you add is the broker workflow, and the Deal Desk works your first files with you.

The nine step transition plan

Expand your options

Stop asking whether the bank will approve it. Start asking who will. A lenders, B lenders, credit unions, private and commercial lenders, with top tier status from your first submission.

What access to 100+ lenders means

Build your business

Clients you originate as a broker are yours: the renewal, the refinance, the referral, the next purchase. Turn your expertise and the relationships you are allowed to keep into a book you own.

Already in commercial banking?

Business owners, investors, developers, DSCR, the credit memo. You are most of the way to a commercial brokerage book. Let's talk about building it.

Common questions

Will my banking experience count?
Yes. You skip nothing the regulator requires, which is the licensing course, and you skip the year most new brokers spend learning credit and income. What you learn here is the broker workflow: many lenders, packaging, compliance and commission.
Can I contact my former clients?
That depends on your employment agreement's non solicit clause and on privacy law, which does not allow bank records to leave with you. Clients who find you and reach out are a different matter. Read the relationships guide and your agreement with a lawyer before you act.
What about my salary, benefits and pension?
They stop with the employment. Commission arrives 30 to 90 days after a file funds and the book pays on renewal, so the comparison is a three year picture, not month three. The economics guide sets it out honestly, with no A.I.M.I. figure attached because the right number depends on your book.
How quickly can I move?
Licensing takes weeks in Ontario and months in BC and Alberta, usually studied while employed. Most bankers line up the brokerage before the licence arrives and fund their first brokered file within two to four months of starting.
Do you provide leads?
No. We give you the infrastructure to build your own book: lender access, the Deal Desk, forums, training, head office processing and a team chat. The pipeline starts with the people you are allowed to contact and the referral partners you build.
