Can I take my client database to a new brokerage?

SHORT ANSWER

It depends on your agreement and on where the data lives. A CRM you own with consent you collected usually moves with you; brokerage systems and files usually do not.

Two things decide it: your brokerage agreement and where the data lives. If your contacts, notes and consent records sit in a CRM you subscribe to yourself, and your agreement does not restrict it, the database is yours and it moves with you. If everything lives in the brokerage's system, the brokerage's terms apply and you may leave with far less than you expect.

Privacy law matters too. Client data collected for a mortgage application was collected under the brokerage's privacy policy, and marketing to those clients afterwards needs consent under CASL that belongs to you, not only to the brokerage. Collecting express consent in your own CRM as you go is the habit that makes a future move painless.

Before you switch, read the agreement, export what you are entitled to, and rebuild your renewal calendar from it. Choosing a CRM you own is the single best preparation for a move you have not planned yet.

Our approach

A switch here is planned around your pipeline, not ours. We map every live file with you, run the licence transfer and lender registrations in parallel, and line up the first hard file for the Deal Desk so the first week is a funded file, not a form. Clients you originate are yours, including the renewal and the referral, and that is written down.
