A banker moving to brokering needs a brokerage with broad lender access, strong support while commission income builds, compliance carried for them, and clear, honest rules about which clients they can serve.
The biggest change from the bank is choice. Instead of one bank's products you can place files with banks, credit unions, B lenders and private lenders, which means learning new policies quickly. Look for lender training and someone to call when a file does not fit.
The second change is pay. Salary stops and commission arrives only when files fund, often months after you start. A brokerage that carries processing and compliance lets you spend those months building a pipeline.
The third is clients. Your employment agreement with the bank, and privacy law, limit what you can take or use. Clients you originate as a broker are yours. Read your agreement and get legal advice before you resign.
A.I.M.I. Collective welcomes bank mortgage specialists who are licensed or completing their licence in BC, Alberta or Ontario. Conversations are confidential, and nothing is said to your employer. We never ask you to bring your bank clients.
